Hamburg der erste Korb bei der FIBA U17 Weltmeisterschaft fallen wird. Auf

Countdown unaufhörlich nach unten. Grund genug, einen Blick hinter die
Kulissen zu werfen, um einen Einblick in den Stand der Vorbereitungen zu
bekommen.<br>

Für den deutschen U17-Bundestrainer Frank Menz, der mit seiner Mannschaft
bei der ersten U17 Weltmeisterschaft in der Geschichte auf den Heimvorteil
baut, stehen in den nächsten hundert Tagen wichtige Entscheidungen an. Menz
muss aus seinem momentan 18 Spieler umfassenden Kader zwölf Spieler für die
WM benennen. Auf dem Weg nach Hamburg tritt das DBB-Team noch bei zwei
Turnieren an, dem Albert Schweitzer Turnier im April in Mannheim und dem
ING-DiBa-Junior Cup im Juni in Hamburg. Für die Spieler wichtige Tests, um
sich eines der begehrten WM-Tickets zu sichern.<br>

sein werden Siggi und Hein<strong> (Foto rechts)</strong>, die beiden
Maskottchen des deutschen Teams, die schon bei ihrer offiziellen
Vorstellung einen bleibenden Eindruck bei den deutschen Basketball-Fans
hinterlassen haben. Neben der Präsentation des offiziellen WM-Maskottchens
laufen die Vorbereitungen im Organisations-Team auf Hochtouren. Die
Organisation in und um die Spiel- und Trainingshalle, Absprachen mit dem Hotel,
den Mannschaften und Partnern sowie die Produktion von
Informations-Materialien stehen auf dem Plan von WM-Direktor Markus Friz
und seinem Team.<br>

Eine besonders wichtige Rolle nimmt derzeit das Volunteer-Programm ein.
„Wir sind auf der Suche nach motivierten Helfern, die einen ganz
wichtigen Anteil zum Erfolg der Veranstaltung tragen wollen“, erklärt
